A car is often an investment for years. The better you take care of your car, the longer it will serve you and the less money you will spend on major repairs. Servicing your car regularly is key to extending the life of your car and keeping it in good shape. See what keeps your car running much longer.
Why service your car?
By regularly checking your car’s condition, you can prevent major breakdowns and avoid expensive repairs. While inspecting the car, you or the mechanic can spot minor irregularities and fix them before they turn into major damage that will cost a lot more to repair. Regular and timely replacement of fluids, such as brake fluid, coolant, engine oil or transmission oil, makes the parts of the car more protected, so they are less likely to be damaged
Most often, car servicing ends with changing the engine oil, filter and timing if needed. Sometimes, however, during the inspection it turns out that a more serious intervention is necessary
How to prevent damage to the car?
To avoid more serious damage to the car, you can make small modifications to it, which will protect the car from damage. Such a modification can be, for example, lowering the suspension. This modification not only gives the car a different, sportier look, but also improves the handling characteristics of the car. According to the manufacturer of lowering springs, a car with a low suspension has a better grip in tight corners and has a much smaller expansion effect when dynamically starting. Car sp rings lowering suspension positively affects your safety and the condition of the car
Another such change that can be made to your car to reduce wear and tear is the installation of stabilizers. Car stabilizers reduce the impact of centrifugal force during cornering and sudden change of direction. They prevent the body from tilting excessively.
How often should I have it serviced?
Car manufacturers do not give specific intervals for servicing. A reasonable minimum is considered to be 15,000 km of mileage, however long it takes. After this time, the engine oil should be changed. Every 60,000 km or so, which is about every two years, it is recommended to change the brake fluid. Its too low level can be very dangerous, as “boiling” the brakes makes it virtually impossible to stop the car. Coolant should be changed every 2 to 4 years, while oil in the gearbox should be changed depending on its type. In a manual transmission, oil should be changed every 5 years or 100,000 km. In the case of automatic gearboxes, the first oil change should be carried out after 60,000 kilometers driven, with subsequent changes even more frequent, every 30-40,000 km
Can I service my car myself?
If you drive a showroom car, in order to keep the warranty, you have to visit designated service stations on time every year. If you try to do small repairs on your own, you will probably lose your warranty. On the other hand, if you bought a used car or if it is already after the warranty period, you can undertake servicing on your own
To drive a car long and safely, it is necessary to regularly perform inspections and servicing of the car. No matter whether you decide to do it in an authorized service center or look for a mechanic on your own, or even perform minor repairs yourself, do not underestimate the importance of regular service. Take care of the technical condition of your car, and thus of your safety on the road
