Do you feel like over the years, some parts in your car have been replaced more often than the rest? This is normal, find out which components break down most often!

Engine

There are a lot of smaller parts in the power unit that “like” to break down. Some of them have a tendency to do so, others need a little help through lack of care for the car.

  1. First and foremost is the valve seals. Seeing an oil stain under the car, you can tell in the dark that this is a problem involving the seals. After some time, they become unsealed or damaged – a natural occurrence. Fortunately, replacing them is not very expensive.
  2. Turbine is another part of the power unit prone to failures. Unfortunately in this case the cost of repair is significant. Fortunately, it can be remanufactured if its condition permits. You can prevent problems with the turbine by checking and topping up the engine oil in your vehicle
  3. Seizing of the timing belt, and its consequent breakage, is quite common. It can be replaced without interfering with the entire timing structure, which has its advantages, primarily financial. The entire timing gear with a dual mass pulley is an expense of several thousand PLN, which is a bit more problematic

Electrics

This is the bane of newer productions, in which there is simply more of it. In older, fairly simple designs, short circuits, burned circuits or fuses are also a big problem, but in modern vehicles, electrical problems are much more common.

  1. Short circuit in the system – a very common failure. How to find out if it is really a short circuit in the electrical system? This will not be difficult. Spontaneous switching on the windshield wipers at the least expected moment, non-functioning or flashing bulb inside the car, or spontaneous switching off the radio. These are just a few examples of a number of faults that indicate problems with the electrical system.
  2. A blown fuse is a fault that happens almost as often as a blown light bulb. The problem is a bit more complicated, but not very troublesome to repair
  3. Car does not start? Probably the battery is to blame. If it has not been changed for years, now there is no way out, time to buy a new piece. Another common fault that likes to appear in winter. Before the season starts, go to your mechanic and ask him to check the battery charge level. You’ll be sure to get to work on time one winter morning.

Brakes

Are you depressing the brake pedal and it’s not responding as it should? It’s probably time to replace your brake discs or pads. Don’t delay with this repair – keep yourself and others safe while driving!

  1. Brake discs – are slightly more expensive than brake pads, but they certainly last more kilometers. Their replacement occurs after 60-80 thousand kilometers. Mechanics say that it is best to replace the discs every second time you replace the pads.
  2. Brake pads – you can easily calculate that you should replace them every 25-35 thousand kilometers. Then you can be sure that you will not encounter an unpleasant situation while driving
  3. Boiling of the brake fluid – a rare situation, but very possible. When going down a steep hill, instead of using the brake all the time, choose engine braking. Frequent use of the brake pedal can lead to this failure.

Other high frequency failures

Several cases from the ADAC ranking – a collection of roadside assistance interventions – are worth including in this list. In the first place appeared the battery, the second place was taken by the wide engine, what came in the other places?

  • mechanical defects,
  • suspension faults,
  • gearbox problems,
  • clutch failure,
  • alternator and starter failure,
  • lighting and wiring problems.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that only the listed parts will fail in your car. It could be something else entirely. It all depends on the level of exploitation of the car, road conditions, but also on animals, which especially in wooded areas and winter conditions love to arrange a “warm apartment” under the hood of the vehicle.
